Here are some other statistics that describe this generation that is referred to as The Mosaics. Who are they? What are they doing? Where do they turn when things don’t go right? Where do they not turn?

What do they enjoy doing?
o 2.5 hours watching TV
o 1 ¾ hours in class
o 1 ½ hours studying
o 10 minutes recreationally reading
o 90% spend 1-4 hours a day on the Web

o 48% of students who regularly play video games admit it takes away from study time

o 16 million adults aged 18-55 play fantasy sports. This number is growing by 10% a year.
Where do they turn? Where do they escape?
· Alcohol & Drugs
o 52% of college students drink heavily/binge drink
o 23% of college students are clinically considered alcoholics or abuse drugs
· Sex
o 80% of 18-24 yr. olds have had sex
o 25% have engaged in sex with multiple partners in the past year
· Money
o $15,000 in school debt (public university)
o Carry a $1,400 balance on their credit cards
o Spend an average of $287 a month on entertainment, clothing, and food
o 2% tithe to their church or a charity
· Food
o 40% of college age girls struggle with an eating disorder
o 91% of college age girls have dieted
· Depression
o 15% of college students have been diagnosed with depresseion
· Suicide
o 10% of college students have considered suicide
o 7% have formulated a plan to do so
Where do they NOT turn?
· Only 3 out of 10 twentysomethings (31%) attend church in a typical week, compared to 4 out of 10 of those in their 30s (42%) and nearly half of all adults age 40 and older (49%).
· Just 22% of those ages 25 to 29 attended church in the last week.
· Many twentysomethings are reversing course after having been active church attenders during their teenage years. As teenagers, more than half attended church each week and more than 4 out of 5 (81%) had ever gone to a Christian church. And by their junior year in college only 29% have attended a religious meeting. There is a 42% drop in weekly church attendance from high school graduation to age 25 and a 58% decline from age 18 to age 29. That represents about 8,000,000 twentysomethings alive today who were active church-goers as teenagers but who will no longer be active in a church by their 30th birthday.
· Overall, only 30% of twentysomethings have read the Bible in the past week, compared to 37% of those in their 30s; 44% of fortysomethings; 47% of adults in their 50s; and 55% of those age 60 and above.
· Only 16% of American Adults cites the Bible as their basis for making moral choices.
